In October 2024, 100 Women Who Care Knoxville voted to support Magnolia Ministries, which serves vulnerable and exploited women in East Knoxville.
The funds will help the nonprofit expand its three main services: a health clinic, nighttime outreach, and serving hot meals to those in need.
"We want to empower women to see a greater future," Magnolia Ministries Executive Director Katie Boggs said. "We want them to believe in themselves and see a path forward ahead that maybe they haven't been able to envision in their current circumstance."

FROM TONYA: At FOCUS Ministries, we do everything possible to remove barriers for incarcerated women. We offer as many as 11 spiritual and personal development classes for the women we serve in correctional facilities annually during three 12-week semesters in Knox County, Anderson County, Sullivan County, and soon-to-be Blount Co. Our teachers faithfully go in every week to teach Christ-centered classes with evidence based-practices.
We also operate a reentry program in the Knoxville/Powell area that serves up to 12 newly released women at a time. Our 9-12 month transitional home provides comprehensive support for women, some of whom have never lived in a Godly home with love and structure.
One of our success stories is our current office manager, Savannah. She was incarcerated on serious drug charges in 2020. Although she was “raised in church,” God’s love was not shared in her home growing up. She was a good student and was always told she had a lot of potential, but she found her identity in the only thing that made her feel like she belonged: drugs and alcohol. Her addiction spiraled for 15 years, and from inside a jail cell, the Lord told her she was worthy because He said she was worthy.
From there, she came to the FOCUS Reentry Program, which allowed her to rest her head at night in a safe, drug-free environment. FOCUS also provided her with the love and guidance necessary to help her integrate into a prosocial lifestyle. She built a solid support system with Jesus as the foundation.
She is now a Junior at Johnson University, majoring in Family Studies and minoring in Business Administration. She still isn’t quite sure what she wants to do with these degrees, but she knows she wants to help other women break generational cycles of addiction and trauma. She has reunited with her family and is now a positive role model for her five nephews.
Our goal is to continue to help more women like Savannah.
Educating students on the autism spectrum and other unique learning styles, they are a nonprofit 501c3 private school with small classroom sizes and tailored support. They take a holistic educational approach to helping students achieve their academic, cognitive, and social abilities.
