New to 100 Women Who Care? Start Here!

It's a simple idea that has grown organically as women across the country heard about it:

One hundred women (at least!). One hour. Three presentations from local nonprofits. Participants vote. One nonprofit receives $10,000. Four times a year.

Since 2016, 100 Women Who Care Knoxville has raised approximately $410,000 for 33 local nonprofits.

How it Works

  1. Create a Grapevine account (donation platform)

  2. Members submit names of local nonprofits to be put in the hat for consideration.

  3. Three names are drawn, and representatives of those nonprofits are invited to make a five-minute presentation to the group at a quarterly event.

  4. The members vote by secret ballot and the simple majority wins.

  5. The winner receives 100% of the donations, and the other two names go back into the hat for future drawings.

  6. Members contribute $100 each (and can give more)!

  7. The quarterly winner will also receive a communications and marketing package (valued at $10,000-15,000) from Laura Braden, Knoxville-native and owner of On Message, LLC.

Founding of 100 Women Who Care

The first 100 Women Who Care giving circle was created by Karen Dunigan in Michigan in 2006. She saw a need for baby cribs, mattresses, and blankets and found 100 people willing to donate $100 to meet the need. She died of cancer in 2014. One of her sisters said, "Karen lives every time a new chapter starts."

More than 115 chapters of 100 Women Who Care have been established throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, all modeled on the group she started in 2006.
